Founder's Note
Thirty Five Years on the Tools, and Why I Answer the Phone Question Now
By Samana Rob, founder of AI Receptionist Unlimited
I want you to know who is on the other side of this website before you take a single word of advice from it. My name is Samana Rob. I spent thirty five years running my own company as a licensed electrician, an HVAC guy, and eventually a master renovator who took whole houses down to the studs and put them back together.
I hired crews, I quoted jobs on tailgates, and I lost more work than I want to admit because the phone rang while I was up a ladder with both hands full.
When I was sixteen a doctor told me I had retinitis pigmentosa. If you have not heard of RP, it is a slow eye disease that eats away at your vision from the edges inward, year after year, and there is no fixing it. I knew from that day that a clock was running.
I decided the honest thing to do was work as hard as I could for as long as I could see, so I did exactly that for three and a half decades and I do not regret one hour of it.
About eight years ago the clock ran out on the trades for me. I am legally blind now. You cannot pull service panels or frame a wall when you cannot reliably see the edge of a blade, and pretending otherwise is how people get hurt.
Hanging up the tools after that long is a strange kind of grief, and anyone who has been forced out of work they were good at will know exactly what I mean by that.
So I went looking for something I could still do well. It turns out that thirty five years of running a service business gives you a very specific kind of knowledge that does not disappear when your eyesight does.
I know what a missed call costs, because I have watched a four thousand dollar panel upgrade go to the next guy on the list simply because he picked up and I did not. I know the difference between a lead worth chasing and a tire kicker who wanted a free education.
That is why this site exists. When AI receptionists got genuinely good in the last couple of years, I recognized the thing I would have paid real money for back when I was in the field. A phone that always gets answered, a calendar that fills itself, and a summary waiting for you when you climb down off the roof.
Not a menu tree, not a message service, an actual answer at eleven at night when a homeowner has water coming through a ceiling.
I spend my days now testing these systems, comparing what they charge against what they actually deliver, and writing it up in plain language for owners who do not have time to research any of this. I use screen readers and magnification to do the work, which means it takes me longer than it would take someone else.
I think that is part of why the writing here is careful. When every page costs you real effort, you do not fill it with fluff.
Here is my deal with you, stated plainly. This is an affiliate site. If you sign up for a service through a link on these pages, I earn a commission and you pay exactly the same price you would have paid otherwise. Not a dollar more.
Those commissions are how I make my living now, and they are what fund the research, the testing, and the time it takes to write guides that are actually useful.
What I will not do is recommend something I would not have bought myself when I was quoting jobs out of a work van. If a service meters your minutes and spikes your bill during your busiest week, I will say so. If a cheaper option is the right call for a business your size, I will say that too.
My name is the only thing I have left to trade on, and I am not spending it on a bad recommendation.
If you are reading this at nine at night after a twelve hour day, still trying to figure out how to stop losing calls, I have been exactly where you are. Take what is useful here and leave the rest. And if you do buy through one of my links, thank you. You are keeping a guy who lost his trade in a job he can still do well.

The fastest way to judge any of this is to hear it handle a real call. It is flat pricing, unlimited calls, twenty four hours a day, and month to month with nothing to cancel out of.
